ABSA Cape Epic and MSM products in Extreme Conditions

Another edition of the prestigious Cape Epic stage MTB race has ended! We traveled to South Africa as mechanic support for three teams, drawing on our experience in stage races and bike maintenance. For the maintenance of six bikes, we exclusively used our products: MSM Chain Lube and MSM LFG.

MSM lubricants proved highly effective, enhancing race performance and maintenance ease. The chain lube prevents grease marks on the transmission and chain, providing top-tier lubrication with a low friction coefficient and easy post-ride cleaning—critical for fast maintenance during races.

After each stage, we avoided shampoos or degreasers for bike washing, and used the early prototype of what we now released as Rinse And Shine. This greatly contributed to component durability and simplified between-stage maintenance. The MSM chain lube excelled in harsh African conditions—handling over 40°C, dust, rocks, and river crossings—without requiring mid-stage re-lubrication, unlike most other lubes.

MSM LFG was also a standout performer. Applied after each stage to remove dirt and before each stage for optimal suspension sensitivity, it was crucial on the tough Cape Epic terrain. Suspension servicing was performed twice over the eight stages, maintaining top performance.

Replace harmful shampoos and degreasers for a new level of bike care and riding across all terrains, prolonging component life. Remember, shampoos and especially degreasers aren’t your bike’s friends!
